PRD template
The problem, the user, the scope, and requirements you can test.
PRD template
Sample layout
- Problem
- Students miss due dates that live in email
- User
- A student with five courses
- In scope
- A dated assignment list
- Out of scope
- Grade prediction
- Requirement
- Each assignment has a due date
Sample skeleton. One sentence per heading is a start, not a finished PRD.
The sections that matter
A product requirements document, or PRD, says what you are building and what you are not. Searches for prd template, product requirements document template, and product requirements document sample want these sections: problem, user, goal, in scope, out of scope, requirements, and open questions. A product documentation template for an existing feature is a different page. It describes what shipped. A PRD describes what you intend to ship.
Write requirements so a test can fail. 'Fast' is not a requirement. 'The assignment list shows items due in the next seven days' is. The sample on this page is one sentence per heading so the order is visible. Your document replaces those sentences.
How it relates to meetings
Decisions that change scope belong in the PRD and in the minutes of the meeting that made them. The minutes point at the PRD. The PRD does not paste the transcript. An SOP is how someone operates the thing after it exists. Do not merge the three.
Questions
- What is a product requirements document sample?
- A short filled example: the user, the problem, what is in and out of scope, and a few testable requirements. It shows the headings. It is not your spec.
- How is a PRD different from a one-pager?
- A one-pager is the problem, the user, and the proposal. A PRD adds scope and requirements detailed enough to build and to test. Start with the one-pager if the problem is still fuzzy.
