The rows

An itinerary template, trip itinerary template, or travel itinerary template is a schedule of the trip, not a packing essay. Each row is one stop: day, time, place, and a booking reference if money or a ticket is attached. Searches for itinerary planning template and travel planner template want the same table, sometimes with a city column when the trip changes cities.

Sort by date and time. A day with no rows is a day you have not planned, which is useful to see. Put addresses in the place field so you are not searching email at the curb. Keep a link to the ticket on the row.

What stays off the itinerary

Packing lists and restaurant wishes are other pages. A budget for the trip can be a filtered view of the budget template, with the trip as a category. If the trip is a group event with vendors, look at event planning for the task list. The itinerary itself should still fit on one calendar view.

How to set it up

  1. Enter the fixed bookings first. Flights, trains, and the hotel. Everything else moves around those times.
  2. Add one row per stop. Include the confirmation code in its own property so it is copyable.
  3. Read it in calendar view. Gaps and overlaps show up there. A table hides a double-booked afternoon.

Questions

What is the difference between an itinerary and a travel planner?
The itinerary is the timed schedule. A travel planner often adds packing, budget, and ideas. Keep the schedule as its own database so the day-of view stays short.
How detailed should a day be?
Timed entries for anything with a reservation. One optional block for the rest of the day. An hour-by-hour plan for a vacation usually gets ignored by lunch.
