What the education plan is
Notion's education help page describes a free plan for individual students and teachers at accredited colleges and universities. It applies to a one-member workspace when you sign in with a school email the system recognizes (Notion points at the World Higher Education Database for that check). Notion's product page describes the student offer as a free Plus plan: unlimited file uploads and 30-day page history, the same class of limits as paid Plus.
A second offer covers verified student organizations, with a workspace that can have more than one member. That one is an application, not an automatic switch. K-12 students are pointed at the regular Free plan. Notion does not accept a student ID photo as proof. The email domain is the check.
How to claim it
Notion's help page lists the path: Settings, Upgrade plan, then Get free education plan. The account needs the school address. If you already pay for Plus, the help page says to move back to Free before claiming the education offer. To keep the plan, you re-verify with the school email about once a year. Removing that email drops the education pricing.
The plan does not build your notes for you. A student planner and a study planner are the pages most people want after the upgrade. Prices for everyone else are on Notion pricing.
How to set it up
- Use the school email. Add it as the address on the Notion account. A personal Gmail does not pass the domain check.
- Start from Free. If you are already on paid Plus, change plan to Free first, then look for the education option.
- Open Settings. Upgrade plan, then Get free education plan. If the school is recognized, the upgrade is automatic.
- If the button is missing. Notion's help page says to write team@makenotion.com when the school is in WHED but the domain is not allowlisted yet.
Questions
- Is Notion free for students?
- The Free plan is free for anyone. The education plan is an extra free upgrade for college students and educators who verify a school email. It is a one-member workspace, not a free team plan, unless you are a verified student organization.
- Does high school count?
- Notion's help page directs K-12 students and teachers to the standard Free plan. The education upgrade described here is for accredited higher education.
- How long does the education plan last?
- Notion's help page says there is no fixed end date, and that you verify the school email about once a year to keep it.
