Where a note lives
A note in Notion is a page. The page can sit loose in the sidebar, or it can be a row in a database. Searches for notion notes, and the Spanish search notas, are about this. Use a loose page for something you will not look up by course or date. Use a database when you have more notes than you can scan: class notes, meeting notes, a journal.
Organize notes by the question you ask later. 'What did we cover in biology on Thursday?' needs Course and Date. 'Where is the decision about the filter?' needs a project and a meeting date. Tags help only when you reuse the same small set. Twenty tags is a second inbox.
A body that stays searchable
Write a title a search can match: the topic, not 'Notes'. Put the definition or the decision in the first lines. A class notes template and a Cornell layout are two ways to structure the body. A journal is a dated page with a prompt, which is a different job.
Questions
- Should every note be a database row?
- No. One-off pages can live on their own. Use a database when you filter by date, course, or project.
- How do I organize notes in Notion?
- Pick one parent database per kind of note. Give each page a date and one category. Link a note to a project or a course with a relation instead of filing it in three places.
