Aesthetic notes
A clear page with one accent. Decoration that hides the text is not a layout.
Aesthetic notes
Sample layout
- Title
- Lecture 4
- Cover
- Empty, or one image
- Headings
- Three, in the body
- Highlight
- One color, used rarely
Structure first. Color is a property, not a background on the words.
What makes a notes page hard to read
Searches for aesthetic notes want a page that looks considered. The failure mode is a full-bleed image behind gray text, six highlight colors, and a widget row that pushes the notes below the fold. A readable page has a title, black or near-black text on a light background (or the reverse in dark mode), and headings you can scan.
In Notion, use a page icon if you like, one cover image, and callouts for asides. Highlight one kind of sentence only, such as definitions. The class notes properties still belong at the top. A widget for a clock does not make the notes easier to find.
A layout you can keep
Title, one-sentence summary, then three headings. White space between sections. If you want the page to feel designed, the cover and the icon do that job. The body stays plain so you can still study from it. Aesthetic and useful are the same page when the words are the point.
Questions
- How do I make Notion notes look clean without losing the text?
- One cover, one icon, headings in the body, and a single highlight color for definitions. Skip background images behind paragraphs.
